A Long December
Not my favorite song (a little slow and whiney), but fitting.
So I am still trying my best to embrace the arctic blast and winter precipitation. Got out to enjoy a snow ride the other day. Then an Ice Ride.
The latest snow storm started on the weather dude's cue and got off to a great start; but before I could make it to the trail, it turned to sleet/freezing rain.
My dad responsibility level is higher than usual since Michele is off on a field trip to our nations capitol with like a hundred middle schoolers (please pray for her). Steven has had a friend over and I have been shuttleing Cierra here and there on icey roads. The boys and I had planned on a nice snow hike, but hiking in a freezing rain just didn't seem all that great. Today, everything is covered in ice, which will soon start to melt making a big mess. Maybe we'll get out today for better or worse. Or maybe I'll just finish remodeling the bathrooms.
Gonna be a long December. A long winter for that matter.

Snow Ride.
So they were calling for a few flurries overnight. Instead we got a nice little snow to add to the Monday morning hustle. After cleaning snow off of vehicles and shuttling kids to school, I decided to enjoy the snow with a ride downtown at the James River Park System. It was a nice wet snow that clung to the trees producing a winter wonderland everywhere.

Gettin' Some

I finally got caught up on work so I have been able to get some riding in. Got in a nice two lapper downtown Thursday with Brad ending up in the dark. Did a really interesting exploratory ride Friday with Joel G. More on that later, but for now I'll say that we discovered a way to ride the north bank of the river from the Pumphouse to the Huguenot Bridge with almost no road. Maybe a little trespassing and some sweet riverside riding and scenery. We completed a loop by crossing the river and taking a familiar route along the southside via Huguenot Flatwater, Pony Pasture, Wetlands, and Riverside Drive.
Yesterday, Brad and I ventured out to Walnut Creek south of Charlottesville.
The Creek is always a blast. The trails were mostly frozen and riding great.
Of course, no trip near C-ville is complete without some pie and pints from Mellow Mushroom.
What a beer selection.
The Bells Double Cream Stout was perfect for a nice wintery afternoon.
Last piece of Philosopher's Pie.

Cold
Early December and we have been hit with a wicked arctic blast. I usually embace the colder weather, both working in it and outdoor activities. I am having trouble getting into this frigid air. Maybe it is because it was sudden and way early in the season. Seems like it was 70 a week or two back. The cold along with the fact that it is dark by 5 is making getting a ride or some exercise in pretty much impossible. I guess I need to quit being a puss, grow a pair, and get out there.
